Mixed 32-bit and 64-bit install

Technical code : BITNESS_HYBRID_INSTALL

What it means

It works today, but it's fragile — every plugin needs to exist in both bitnesses or some tables will break.

Why it happens

Both 32-bit and 64-bit Visual Pinball executables are installed side by side — a legitimate setup, but one that quietly doubles the maintenance every plugin needs.

How Pincab Toolbox detects it

The free scanner checks the following:

Both a 32-bit and a 64-bit main Visual Pinball executable are confirmed present, by reading their actual file headers.

What to do

You have both a 32-bit and a 64-bit Visual Pinball on this machine. That works, but every component (ROM engine, DMD, backglass) must exist TWICE, once per version. One missing piece and part of your tables break with no explanation.

  1. Decide which of the two is your main version, the one PinUP Popper launches. You can see it in PinUP Popper, VPX emulator settings.
  2. Simplest and safest: keep only one. Rename the other folder by adding "_inactive" at the end, rather than deleting it. If something breaks, put the name back.
  3. Run a new scan: Pincab Toolbox will see only one version and tell you exactly what is missing for it.
  4. If you want to keep both, check every component exists in both flavours: VPinMAME.dll AND VPinMAME64.dll, dmddevice.dll AND dmddevice64.dll.
  5. Test a ROM table from each of the two versions before calling it done.

Check your own pincab
